Tungsten is a unique metal due to its high
temperature properties and exceptional high density. It is a metal
with a wide range of uses, the largest of which is as tungsten carbide
in cemented carbides. Cemented carbides (also called hardmetals)
are wear-resistant materials used by the metalworking, mining, and
construction industries. However, the most well known application
of tungsten still is the double coiled filament used in incandescent
lamps. It is also widely used in the electronic, electrical, heating,
and welding applications. Tungsten is also used to make heavy metal
alloys for armaments, heat sinks, and high-density blades; tool
sheets; and wear-resistant alloy parts and coatings. Tungsten chemical
compounds are used in catalysts, inorganic pigments, and high- temperature
lubricants.
Pure tungsten wires are offered in standard
or customer-specified variations, beginning with a starting size
of .001” diameter. Wire is offered in both clean and black
varieties.
Rod begins with a starting size of .100”
diameter to a maximum diameter of 2-inches. Please note that rods
are offered in lengths of 102 inches. Tungsten rods are available
in both mill and ground finishes.
